About Old Potrero Whiskey

The story of Old Potrero Whiskey begins with Fritz Maytag, the visionary behind the craft beer movement who purchased Anchor Brewing in 1965. In 1993, Fritz expanded his expertise into the world of spirits, founding Anchor Distilling Company. Inspired by America’s historical rye whiskeys and the great single malts of Scotland, Fritz revived pot-distilled whiskey in the U.S. after decades of its absence.

Old Potrero is crafted from 100% malted rye and distilled in small copper pot stills at the Hotaling & Co. Distillery in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill. Today, Bruce Joseph, who has worked alongside Fritz since the beginning, serves as Master Distiller, continuing the tradition of crafting bold, high-quality rye whiskeys.
